Residents and people of Prampram in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday participated in major clean- up exercise in the town ahead of this year’s Homowo festival.
Acting President of the Prampram Traditional Council, and Mankralo, Nene Asture Benta III said the Council organized the clean up exercise to ensure a clean environment for the Homowo celebration.
Nene Benta added that, it was important to de-silt all the choked drains in the various communities and tidy up the entire Prampram town even as indigenes residing outside the town and visitors thronged the area to savour culture and the warmth of kinsmen.
He noted that, the exercise was part of programmes put in place by the Council for the festival and called on edginess residing in and outside the area to actively participate.
Mr Eugene Martey Chawey, a member of the Prampram Homowo Planning Committee and the Customs Committee, explained that, this year”s Homowo festival would be used to restore hope in the various communities in the Prampram traditional area.
According to Mr Chawey, the planning committee had incorporated plans to tackle the surge of Tramadol abuse currently affecting some of the youth in the country and in the town, as well as drum home the need to live a good life for a secured future.
Mr William Norman, A Unit Committee member for the Upper -West Prampram, called on the government and other benevolent organizations in the area to assist Prampram to achieve its developmental aims.
Ms Ramina Tetteh, a resident, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the clean up exercise and made a passionate call on the government to help provide jobs for the youth.
This year’s annual Homowo celebration comes off on Tuesday, 28th August 2018 on the theme: “Re-uniting Prampram for development, the role of the citizenry”, with the sprinkling of kpoikpoi.
