Social media has been seen of pictures showing former president Jerry John Rawlings directing traffic as the level of lawless on the Accra-Aflao road gets terrible.
The former head of state is seen in several pictures making some gestures to drivers and road users in the middle of the road.
The Former military ruler got out of his car to intervene on the heavy traffic situation that was seen to have halted the road and brought the cars to a stand still.
Most major streets in Accra have gained notoriety for having the city’s worst traffic jam situations.
Some of these roads include the Madina to 37 road, Circle to Achimota road, Ofankor to Pokuase road, the Tema motorway – Tetteh Quarshie roundabout and many others.
Efforts by previous governments to address the problem seem not to have yielded results as the traffic situation has not improved.
Some analysts have suggested a total review of the country’s transportation system with a shift from the construction of new roads to the implementation of policies that will encourage boarding of commercial buses.
The former President since the intervention has made a passionate appeal to a joint police and military operation to be posted to the area to manage traffic and ensure discipline.
