The Ghana Police Service has announced that their investigation into the reported kidnapping of a student from Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, Accra, has determined that the incident was staged.
According to their findings, one of the juveniles involved conspired with others to fake the kidnapping in order to extort money from his parents for a trip abroad.
Initially, the supposed kidnappers demanded a ransom of Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC340,000.00) from the alleged victim’s parents to facilitate his supposed release.
However, it was revealed that the juveniles, along with two others, managed to collect Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵20,000.00) as part of the ransom.
As a result of an intelligence-led operation and thorough investigation, the Ghana Police Service apprehended six individuals, including four juveniles who are all students of Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, Accra. Among the six arrested, two are adults identified as Isaac Kissi Adjei, also known as Kofi Black, and Courage Teiko, alias Timmy.
“In line with best practice, the identities of the juveniles have been withheld and their Parents and Guardians have been duly informed, as Police investigations into the incident continues,” a portion of the release reads.
