President Akufo-Addo Puts Fear Of God In ‘Thieves’- Nana Boakye
Mr Dennis Amfo-Sefa, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema West, has saluted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his performance at his second ever encounter with the media.
Mr Amfo-Sefah, who is popularly known as Nana Boakye said the President’s explanation of the purpose of the Special Prosecutor was the most refreshing highlight of the whole encounter for him.
“The President explained that the Special Prosecutor’s Office, to which anti corruption crusader, Martin Amidu, has been nominated as first occupant, is aimed at putting the fear of God in duty bearers who loot the public purse.”
The NPP leading member, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on the performance of the President in his second media encounter gave thumps up to the President for his explanations to pertinent issues that were raised.
“Now I know Mr. Martin Amidu will not be solution to all the problems of corruption, but I am confident that he will put the fear of God in those who choose to be corrupt in office,” President Akufo-Addo had told journalists at the Flagstaff House.
“His Excellency the President has been absolutely frank about our situation – where we have reached with corruption now, what we need is the fear of God Almighty Himself and Mr. Martin Amidu who was prepared to walk out of his appointment as Attorney General under President Mills to fight corruption is the only person who looks like the right arm of God in Ghana.
“I particularly liked the honesty of the President in admitting that the appointment of Martin Amidu will not solve all our problems, but that it will put the fear of God in corrupt public officials,” Nana Boakye said.
“President Akufo-Addo who stood throughout the programme to answer questions from journalists from across Ghana gave a fine delivery that highlighted great macro and micro economic achievements that his government has made in just one year.
He said the President affirmed that his administration was taking care of a messy situation that the NDC left behind and did not mince words reiterating that President Mahama’s government was corrupt.
President Akufo-Addo cited serious public procurement malpractices, especially the abuse of Sole Sourcing, as one of the main things that the previous government had indulged in.
He said in a response to questions as to how he intended dealing with the culture of corruption in the country and retribution for past regime actors, the President explained that he was looking forward to the Special Prosecutor to put the fear of God in corrupt public officials.
“Let us be clear that the corrupt office holders that the President spoke about do not preclude members of his own government. If you are corrupt in this government too, you will see the fear of God,” Nana Boakye said.
