President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, for Lome, Togo, to facilitate, as mandated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the dialogue aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in that country.
He will return to Ghana on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.
The President has been a mediator for peace in Togo ever since the country witnessed a series of protests by opposition parties calling for a return to the country’s constitution which imposes limits on presidential terms.
President Akufo-Addo’s intervention began in October 2017.
