Prevent Bushfires – Farmers Told
The Guantoahene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Gomoaba Nana ApataKof iV, has reiterated the call on farmers, palm win tappers, individual and group hunters to exercise great caution when dealing with naked fire between now and May ending.
This, he noted, was the best way the nation could protect the large tracts of cocoa, coffee, cowpea, rice, and other food crop farms which commercial and peasant farmers have established.
It will also go a long way to protect pockets of villages where large number of settler farmers lived to undertake their agricultural activities.
Gomoaba Nana ApataKofi who is also the Odzikro of GomoaPomadze in the Central Region, was lunching this year’s annual Akwambo festival of the chiefs and people of Gomoa Pomadze on Tuesday.
He said the vital role which farmers in general played in nation building cannot be overemphasized, adding that, “we cannot develop the country effectively without the active involvement of people who produce economic crops and food items to earn the nation foreign exchange and also feed millions of people living in the country’’.
The Guantoahene commended farmers for the excellent and useful contributions they have been making over the years towards national development, and charged the citizenry to learn to accord farmers the greatest respect and honour always to encourage them to intensify their activities.
While charging officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Central Regions to intensify their public educational activities on the dangers associated with bushfire outbreaks, Gomoaba Nana ApataKofi also appealed to all religious organizations to use their medium to highlight the need for the citizenry to protect the nation against all forms of fire outbreaks.
He advised people living in the rural areas to report group hunters and individuals who intentionally set fire to the bush with the sole aim of trapping animals to the law enforcement agencies to make them face the full rigors of the law.
