“Priesthood Must Purge Itself of Quacks” – Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has charged the Christiandom to purge itself of quacks who do not exhibit the tenets of the Christian faith.

He said Christians cannot win souls for the Lord if they engaged in corruption, lawlessness, indiscipline, laziness, immorality and social misdeeds that were affront to the religion.

He added that a corrupt and wayward Christian fold was inefficient and ineffective in supporting national development and reflected negatively on the overall values and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Former President’s message was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the diamond Jubilee celebration of the Church of Christ last Sunday in Cape Coast.

Mr Rawlings said the time had come for all Christians to resolve to act to free society from the grips of corruption, indiscipline and its ugly consequences that had slowed national development for years.

He was of a strong believe that, faith had a critical role to play in the fight against the current immoral canker undermining the development of the country, adding that, religious leaders should use their platforms to build the morality of their members and speak against the ills in the society including corruption.

They should let their lives shine and impact positively in their communities by showing genuine love, integrity and discipline in all their endeavours.

To achieve that, he told them to portray true love and service to humankind and lead a social crusade against social misdeeds by demanding greater probity and accountability from leadership.

“It is only by living deeper Christian life and adhering to the values of Christianity that the Ghanaian society would be transformed to foster peace, unity and progress to the country.”

He stated that religion had a tremendous role in the socio-economic development of the country and the various religious bodies must actively participate in the development processes of the country.

Additionally, they must rededicate themselves to the service of God by upholding the Christian virtues and teaching, adding that the death of Christ brought reconciliation to mankind and as such it must start from the house of God.
