Approximately three-quarters of all schools in Ghana are private schools. The private school sector in Ghana plays a crucial role in filling the gap left by insufficient public education and providing choice to households.
Private schools, both faith-inspired and secular, cater to a wide range of students, including those from low-income households.
Whiles most of them are excelling, a significant number of them continue to face the uphill task of keeping their schools in business.
It is for this reason that the proprietress of Obuasi based Jesus Cares school, Dr. Amina Achiaa Asiedu Amoah has made a passionate call to the government to extend support to private schools in the country.
Speaking at the 3rd graduation ceremony of the school, the retired educationist said private schools play crucial role in educating the Ghanaian child and therefore deserve support from government to enhance their operations and to continue to offer the needed quality education to the Ghanaian child.
Under the theme “The role of stakeholders in academic and moral excellence towards national development” the occasion saw school children entertain parents and invited guest with local dances, drama, poems, rhymes and cadet displays.
Dr. Amina Achiaa Asiedu Amoah said the theme clearly challenges stakeholders in education to play their role in ensuring that children access quality education which is the cornerstone upon which societies construct a prosperous and forward-thinking future.
She again stressed that academic excellence is about developing well-rounded people who can make significant contributions to society.
Citing the Psychologist Jean Piaget’s main objective of education, the Proprietress said Education is to produce men who are creative and inventive rather than men who simply replicate the actions of previous generations.”
In all, 114 students were graduated on the day. 37 of them were KG 2 students transitioning to class 1 whiles 42 were class 3 students moving to class 4. 35 were class 6 students moving to form1.
The PTA chairman of the school, Denis Oteng appealed to parents to support their wards education by investing heavily in it.
He also urged them to contribute to give facelift to the road linking the school.
