Produce Next Witness – Judges Tells A-G
The Accra High Court hearing the alleged murder trial of Gregory Afoko has ordered the Attorney-General to produce its last witness in the case.
The order follows the receipt of a medical report from the Department of Surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where the accused had been referred for medical examination.
The court presided over by Justice L. L. Mensah on July 31 this year ordered the medical directorate of the Ghana Prisons Service at Nsawam to send Gregory to the Department of Surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for examination.
This was because Lawyers for the accused told the court that the accused had a peculiar medical problem and needed some medical attention.
In court yesterday, Justice Mensah said the report from the medical director of Department of Surgery at the hospital said the growth on Gregory’s hand is benign.
He said the accused has also stated that he is fine, a reason the case could continue.
For this reason, the judge ordered the prosecution led by Mathew Amponsah, a Senior State Attorney to put their last witness in the box.
Meanwhile, the last witness- the case investigator is expected to testify in the case as the thirteenth prosecution witness in the matter tomorrow.
Francis Garibah lawyer for Gregory said the defense is amenable to the orders of the court.
Gregory is in the dock over the alleged murder of Adams Mahama, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Gregory has been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and murder of Adams Mahama in May 2015.
Meanwhile he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Adams Mahama died of extensive acid burns and shock lungs (acute respiratory distress syndrome), an autopsy report has indicated.
