Produce Receipts of GH₵61,000 Else… – PAC to Assin North SHS
Officials of the Assin North Senior High School in the Central Region, have been given two weeks by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to purge themselves of perjury or cough up over GHc61,000.
According to the 2015 Auditor General’s report, the school spent GHc163,000 without receipts and invoices to verify the payments.
Officials, however, told the committee they had provided receipts to cover that amount, but upon further probing by the committee, it emerged that receipts were covering over GHc61,000 had not been verified by auditors.
The apparent peddling of untruth under oath incurred the wrath of the Chairman of the Committee, James Klutse Avedzi.
Accountant of the school, Samuel Agudah pleaded for mercy but was asked by Chairman of the Committee to get the Auditor General to verify the receipts else the officials involved would be surcharged.

Earlier, officials of the Sefwi Akontombra District Assembly in the Western Region who appeared before the committee failed to justify why they have not been able to retrieve an amount of GHc88,000 belonging to the Assembly.
According to the 2015 Auditor General’s Report, a former Coordinating Director of the Assembly, Patrick Aparik, and his finance officer, Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, lodged the said amount from stool lands revenue into a private account in 2014.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) sittings in Takoradi, the District Finance Officer of the Assembly, Sylvester Adiku, said the matter was being handled by the police as a theft case.
“The matter has been reported to the police. Initially, it was the BNI which started investigations on it, but when we took over, we were told that the matter was also with the police. So we went to the police to find out if it is true and the commander confirmed,” he said.
