The foundation of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is certainly shaking days after the launch of Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi’s controversial book entitled – “Working with Rawlings”.
The book which has sparked controversy in the party has reopened old wounds with many wondering if the timing was right for the release of the book that has set party big wigs at each other’s throat.
The party said to have been divided into the Mills-Rawlings camps is grappling with internal wrangling in the lead up to the December 2020 polls.
Already, Former President Mr. Jerry Rawlings viewed as the protagonist in the book has indicated his displeasure over some factual inaccuracies as captured in the book by the author who served as a former Local Government Minister in his government.
In a Facebook post Monday, Mr Rawlings described Mr Ahwoi amongst others as people with a “callous agenda of bile” who are “desperately seeking control of the NDC party.”
This, according to him, could collapse and drown the words of the NDC party authority if critical attention is not given to it.
The former president’s comments come after, the launch of former Local Government Minister, Kwamena Ahwoi’s book, ‘Working with Rawlings’ outlined in comprehensive detail, his working relationship with former Mr Rawlings with adjoining events.
“Much as I find it tiring and tedious to be engaging in self defence when I have given my all, all these years, I will soon deal with the callous agenda of bile by the likes of Kwamena Ahwoi, who are desperately seeking control of the NDC party.
“The NDC could, should and has survived on the authority of the word but if care is not taken, it will collapse and drown as has been happening, on the word of those in authority,” his post read.
The book for instance captures Mr. Rawlings as having failed to show remorse when he allegedly squeezed the ‘balls’ of the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Executive Bede Ziedeng.
“On the congress day, Bede and the other party members formed a human chain on the two sides of the entrance to the Congress Hall to provide a kind of protection to the VVIPs as they entered.
“As Bede tells it when Rawlings and his entourage got to the entrance and the crowd surged forward to acknowledge their hero, Rawlings got hold of his testicles and squeezed them hard, so hard that he believes he fainted.
“When he recovered, he was outside the Congress Hall and people were fanning him.”
Prof. Ahwoi said he confronted the Mr. Rawlings on the matter but he laughed over it, stating “I should have squeezed them harder”.
Other shameful party secrets the author reveals includes a claim that Mr. Rawlings saw him at other party gurus as “greedy bastards”, a derogatory term which was popular in 2010 and later in 2012.
Prof. Ahwoi alleges that, Mr. Rawlings had a strained relationship with his former Vice President so much so that he was urging people like businessman Eddy Annan and Ato Ahwoi to contest Prof. Mills in the flagbearer race.
By 2010 when Prof. Mills was President, Mr. Rawlings had become his chief critique with his criticisms nearly causing Prof. Mills to resign, Prof. Ahwoi alleges.
