President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Professor Samuel Kobina Annim as the Substantive Government Statistician.
His appointment took effect from 1st of March, 2019.
A statement signed by Kwadwo Asante-Mensah, Director of Administration at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), described Prof. Annim as ”An Associate Professor of Economics”.
”We are entreating you to accord him the necessary courtesies in the performance of his duties as Government Statistician” – the statement further added.
The Statistical Service is the lead government agency responsible for statistical data.
Prof. Kobina Annim joined the Statistical Service from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where he worked for over 18 years.
Samuel Kobina Annim aside being an Associate Professor in Economics is with more than a decade of teaching experience. His research areas of concentration are micro-finance/access to finance, poverty and inequality and health outcomes. In examining these issues, micro econometric techniques have mainly been used to assert causality and the geographical focus of these studies have cut across developing countries in Asia and Africa.
He has over 30 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters and technical reports to his credit. Some of his publications are available in academic journals such as World Development, Journal of Development Studies and Journal of International Development. In addition, he consults for development partners and governments both in Africa and South East Asia.
