Ghanaian prophet Ebenezer Opambour Yiadom, popularly known as Prophet 1, has issued a stern warning to broadcast journalist Afia Pokua, widely referred to as Vim Lady.
This follows comments by the journalist labeling him as “shallow-minded” after his critique of certain policies by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a viral video, Prophet Opambour expressed his displeasure and threatened to invoke curses if Afia Pokua continued to insult him.
He stated, “If I have not said anything negative about her and she chooses to insult me, I will curse her and do whatever I please with her, including her unborn children.” He further issued a deadline, warning, “I give her until Sunday; if she makes another comment about me, I will curse her.”
The tension between the two stemmed from Prophet Opambour’s questioning of the NPP’s One District, One Factory initiative and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposal for using the Ghana Card as a credit scoring tool for vehicle purchases.
During a recent broadcast, Opambour criticized unfulfilled promises by the NPP, stating, “Where are all the factories? Where are the dams? We don’t want another promise from Bawumia that the Ghana Card can be used to purchase a car when elected.”
Opambour explained that his comments were based on concerns raised during a meeting with National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama. On November 11, 2024, Mahama held a fellowship service with clergymen in Kumasi, where Prophet Opambour expressed skepticism about Dr. Bawumia’s Ghana Card initiative.
Afia Pokua, however, condemned Opambour’s remarks, branding them as ill-informed. She argued, “Anybody who condemns the Ghana Card is a shallow-minded person. This shouldn’t even be a topic for discussion because this same identification card is what has made Europe what it is today.”
Prophet Kumachacha, another prominent preacher, weighed in on the controversy, criticizing Afia Pokua’s comments. He defended Prophet Opambour, stating, “Prophet 1 did not insult anyone. He asked a harmless question. Vim Lady’s remarks were inappropriate and uncalled for.”
