Prosecute BOST Boss – Kwakye to Bawumia
A former deputy minister of communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has asked the Akufo-Addo government to begin prosecuting corrupt officials by starting with one of his own – the current Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Alfred Obeng, before extending same to former officials of the Mahama administration.
According to him, Mr Obeng has been accused of siphoning fuel at BOST, a situation he believed requires thorough investigation and prosecution.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu’s comments come on the heels of hints by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-President of Ghana that corrupt officials who served in the Mahama administration will soon face prosecution, saying, “Ghanaians will find out more soon as people are held legally accountable.”
The Vice-President dropped the hint in his response to former President John Mahama’s accusation that he brought President Nana Akufo-Addo embarrassment by awarding a $2.5million contract to local IT firm Vokacom to develop a “419” application called GhanaPostGPS to be used for the national digital addressing system, when that same app was available on Google for free.
In his response, Dr Mahamudu said, among other things that unlike the Mahama administration which was neck-deep in corruption, the Akufo-Addo government is above board.
He said Ghanaians will soon get to know more about the corruption that took place under the Mahama administration.
But speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 7 November, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said: “If the government says they will soon prosecute corrupt past government officials, we will want to tell them to also include the current MD of BOST, Alfred Obeng, who has been accused of stealing fuel at BOST. Charity they say begins at home, and, so, they must start from within.
“Look at what happened with the matter involving A-Plus and ASP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah. Tiwaa Addo-Danquah admitted in a tape that some government officials were corrupt and that if the matter comes out it will embarrass the government, and, so, they should cover it up, yet this person has been promoted.”
