Purpose for Special Prosecutor Will Materialize – Martin Amidu

The Special Prosecutor Mr Martin Amidu has assured Ghanaians that the purpose for which the office of the Special Prosecutor was set will materialize to the best level.

Special Prosecutor office was brought into existence not long ago by President Akufo-Addo with the sole mindset to be the loop as the department makes a new attempt to rid the country’s payroll of ghost names.

Its another purpose is as well to investigate and prosecute certain categories of cases and allegations of corruption and other criminal wrongdoing, including those involving alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (663) and other essential cases.

The office is also expected to help reduce the workload on existing investigation agencies and thereby, enhance their effectiveness.

Establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor has become very necessary in view of the institutional bottlenecks that impede the fight against corruption.

Thereby Mr Martin Amidu speaking at a press conference to announce a nationwide cleansing of the government payroll by the Audit Service in Collaboration with the office of the Special Prosecutor said,

” Office of the Special Prosecutor is a new one and still in transition and that he assured Ghanaians that he’ll work asiduosly to bring culprits to the law”.

However Mr Amidu added that he is aware Ghanaians expectations are high nevertheless they will prosecute persons with adequate evidence.
