Rawlings Blasts NDC Again!
…Says the Majority Who Wield Influence Within NDC Are Without Integrity
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has dropped yet another bombshell indicating that majority of people within the opposition National Democratic Congress who wield influence do not have the slightest dosage of integrity.
According to him, although there are still some people with integrity, he believes such caliber of persons are in the minority in the NDC.
In the view of the former President and the NDC Founder, some media propagandists sponsored by individuals within the party deliberately twist the truth in what he suspects is intended to court disaffection for him.
This is not the first time the former president has questioned the integrity of some elements within the NDC.
Class For Integrity
In September last year Mr. Rawlings said his party must redeem its image in the eyes of Ghanaians if it was to stand a chance in the 2020 elections insisting that a cleanup and the “restoration of our integrity” is paramount.
Speaking at the 38th-anniversary of the June 4th Uprising at Wa in the Upper West Region, Mr. Rawlings again said there was a need for new leaders with solid integrity to lead the party which he claimed lost “disgracefully” in the December 7, 2016 general election because of greed, corruption and “betrayal of the values of June 4.”
The NDC founder while calling for a complete overhaul of the party’s current crop of leaders argued “…if this horse jockey business cannot be resolved comprehensively allowing integrity to prevail then let both of them step aside and allow for fresh leaders with solid integrity to provide the needed leadership.”
Mr. Rawlings, in his latest address at a Town Hall meeting of cadres and NDC activists at the Arts Centre in Accra over the weekend extolled Martin Amidu’s virtues as a man of integrity.
He said, “When people in NDC and NPP are equally angry about the appointment of Martin Amidu, what should it tell you? Martin should have been used by us (NDC) but no, we checked him in, when he is an embodiment of what we stand for.”
The former President said he had witnessed a lot of negative actions during the Kufuor, Mills and Mahama periods, noting that, if such negative actions against him come from the NPP he would not have been surprised but coming from his own people was difficult to take.
He said “just as we have many psychiatrically challenged personalities holding Bibles with many followers, so do we have in politics too.
And if we don’t recognize them quickly and find a way of pushing them out then we are destined for failure.”
She Squeeze My Wife
Beyond the call for leaders with integrity in the NDC, Mr. Rawlings chided Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, former Foreign Affairs Minister allegedly maltreating his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings on several occasions.
The NDC Founder disclosed he would have grabbed any chance to campaign against Ms. Tetteh, the then the aspirant for the Awutu-Senya West constituency seat in the 2016 polls on the ticket of the NDC.
Mr. Rawlings said the former minister showed disrespect to the former First Lady at several high-profile functions including squeezing Mrs. Rawlings’ hand during a handshake at an independence anniversary parade gathering.
He indicated that he would have focused his energy at the “Central Region against our own candidate called Hanna Tetteh” if he had the energy to involve himself in campaign activities during the 2016 polls.
