Regional Minister Donates to OLA Girls at Independence Anniversary
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council on Tuesday, presented GHC 5,000 to the OLA Girls Senior High School at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District for winning the 21st National Debate Competition of Senior High Schools in the country.
OLA (Our Lady of Apostles) Girls represented the Northern Zone and beat Accra Academy, which represented the Southern Zone in the competition, held in Accra on Friday, March 2, 2018.
The debate was held on the topic: “Attitudes would put Ghana Beyond Aid”.
The Northern Zone comprised Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions whilst the Southern Zone consisted of Greater Accra, Central, Volta, Western and Eastern Regions.
Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, who made the presentation on the sidelines of the regional celebration of the 61st Independence Anniversary, commended OLA Girls for the feat, saying the School has made the region proud.
Earlier, the Regional Minister who read the President’s Anniversary speech inspected a parade of pupils, students and security agencies to the mark the occasion at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.
Led by Captain Eric Kuntu Blankson of the Third Battalion of Infantry (3BN), the parade comprised a contingent of 180 personnel selected from the Ghana Police Service, National Fire Service, Prisons Service, Immigration Service and Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
More than 2,688 pupils and students drawn from 28 Junior and Senior High as well as Vocational and Technical Schools participated in the anniversary which lasted for about three hours.
The 3BN Military band, however, stole the show when officers and men of the garrison exhibited their military prowess amidst brass band music whilst, the Tanokrom Cultural troupe entertained spectators with diverse cultural displays.
Cadet groups from some SHS, dressmakers, hair dressers and persons with disabilities also took part in the march past.
