ANY PERSON or group that is planning to disrupt the December 7 elections in Kumasi should quickly revise their notes in their own interest.
This is because the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has vowed to ruthlessly real with anybody or group that would flout the electoral laws.
Head of REGSEC, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah has stated that the various security agencies were ever ready to make the upcoming elections peaceful.
“Anybody or group that will try to foment trouble to disrupt the elections would be arrested and prosecuted by the security agencies”, he cautioned.
Hon. Osei Mensah, who is also the Ashanti Regional Minister, was speaking when the security agencies embarked on a Show of Force in Kumasi.
During the programme, the military, police, prisons, immigration, fire service and the other security agencies, displayed their weapons on the streets.
Hon. Osei Mensah noted that REGSEC has decided that the security agencies should make themselves visible in Kumasi, ahead of the December 7 polls.
“REGSEC has decided that the various security agencies should embark on a show of force or a float in the streets of Kumasi to announce their presence.
“This is to prove to the residents of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region in general that the security forces are combat ready to ensure law and order in the region”.
Hon. Osei Mensah also announced that the police have started intelligence-led swoops in some known ghettos in Kumasi, lately, to help curb crime.
According to him, the intelligence-led swoops in Kumasi have been successful so far as some know criminals have been apprehended and prosecuted.
The Ashanti Regional Minister assured that the intelligence-led swoops would be sustained until crime was reduced drastically in the Ashanti region.
