Rely on your own ability, and not the person sitting next to you – GNAT urges BECE candidates

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has urged all candidates sitting  the Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) which starts on Monday June 8, to approach it with all seriousness.

The GNAT said in a press release signed by the General Secretary, Thomas Tanko Musah, that this is the time to justify all the investments made in them for the past nine years.

“The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on the occasion of the writing of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) sends all candidates its message of encouragement, and exhorts them to approach the papers with all seriousness, as their first step to achieving success in their educational endeavour in particular and life in general,” a part of the press release dated July 7 reads.

“You have gone through all odds over the past nine (9) years with such resilience. We therefore trust you are now embarking on the crucial journey to higher education with the can-do-spirit. You must therefore enter the examination room with confidence, justify all the time and investments made in you and make Ghana, your teachers, parents and all other stakeholders proud by coming out of the exam with flying colours,” Mr Musah wrote.

GNAT urged the candidates to exhibit integrity, “We urge you to observe all the rules and regulations governing the examination, read and understand all instructions before starting the paper(s), and as much as possible, only rely on your own ability, and not the person sitting next to you, and surely, victory shall be yours.”

“We encourage you all not to indulge in examination malpractice, to save yourselves from all unforeseen embarrassment, trauma and anxiety and believe this time round, the West African Examinations Council would itself be vigilant and ensure a hitch-free examination. We are also hopeful, that the invigilators would not condone malpractice, and also make the exam hitch-free,” GNAT further noted.

The Association said the society is counting on them to do all they can to emerge successful.

“Ghana looks up to you as its torch of progress and prosperity. You therefore need not fail her. Your parents, siblings and the larger society all look up to you, so you need not disappoint them. The future is yours, so take advantage of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and carve a niche for yourselves. The GNAT has confidence in you all and wish you all the best. May all your efforts be crowned with success,” GNAT said.
