Rex Omar Bounces Back With New Single
After many years of being away from the music scene, veteran highlife musician Rex Owusu Marfo, known in the music scene as Rex Omar, has resurfaced on the scene with a gospel song titled ‘Nhyira’.
Produced by Osei Kwaku, ‘Nhyira’ talks about God’s blessings on an individual and what it does in their lives. It features Trigmatic.
A source close to the musician indicated that Rex Omar, who went on a break to study the trend of the music industry, will release singles consistently for the next three years based on the songs he has recorded and continues to record.
During his hiatus, Rex worked on welfare and policy issues related to musicians, and he is the current chairman of the board of the Ghana Music Rights Organizations (GHAMRO).
He is also the convener of the Showbiz Credit Union and the Highlife Agenda, a movement to redefine highlife music.
Rex Omar first gained public recognition when he joined the Nakorex and after the group broke up, he established himself as a unique musician with his melodic inflections of jazz an Afro-pop.
His recording career has spanned 20 years with a number of hits to his credit. His ‘Dangerous’ album which has ‘Abiba’ as its hit song has sold over 300,000 copies and is still attracting audiences beyond Ghana’s borders.
Rex is the winner of several awards, including the Ghana Music Award – best contemporary song of the year 2004. He was also a Kora Awards nominee in 2004. He is notorious for his controversial lyrics and stance on issues concerning the Ghanaian music industry.
