Richard Commey’s promoter takes blame for loss

Manager of Ghanaian boxer, Richard Commey, Michael Amoo-Bediako Sr. has taken responsibility for the boxer’s loss in championship elimination bout against Jose Ramirez.

Amoo-Bediako pointed to his team’s inability to get Commey to make the right weight for the fight that ended in a 11th round knockout loss.

Amoo-Bediako was reacting to Lou DiBella’s statement on Twitter that said Commey’s loss was down to his struggles in making weight for the super lightweight bout after moving up from the lightweight division.

“Congratulations to Jose Ramirez, a true professional. Great heart and effort from Richard Commey, who gives 110%. Don’t understand the horrible problems in Richie making weight after moving up a weight class; the weight drain obviously depleted him and that’s on our team. #boxing“

Amoo-Bediako responded to the tweet and admitted that things could have turned better for Commey.

“100% agree with you Lou. Richard Commey gave it his all and fought his heart out but ultimately we lost this fight on the scales which is unacceptable. I take full responsibility as his manager. I failed in my duty and it will never happen again.”

36-year-old Commey got dropped twice with the second coming after he took a wicked body shot that got him to go down on his knee and fail to beat the count.

The loss is Commey’s fifth in 36 professional bouts. He has 30 wins and a draw on his record.
