Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi grabbed the headlines for his awkward appearance for the game as the former WAFA SC player’s face and hair was covered with a white substance.
The 25 year old shot stopper’s look struck a familiar tone to former Hearts of Oak winger Patrick Razak who spotted a similar look in a game in the 2021-2022 season.
Emmanuel Boakye and Richard Berko scored in the 17th and 87th minute respectively for Karela United and Hearts defender Konadu Yiadom scored an own goal in the 32nd minute to condemn the Phobians to a heavy defeat.
The loss is the first for Hearts since assistant coach David Ocloo took over lead tactical duties from head coach Slavko Matic whose has been away from the team since a run in with a group of fans at the team’s Pobiman facility in the lead up to a crucial game against arch rival Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The game against Kotoko that had Hearts win 1-0 doubled as the President’s Cup; the Cup is played annually in honour of the President of Ghana as part of activities to mark Ghana’s Independence Day Celebrations.
