River kills man, 40

A 40 YEAR-old man has accidentally slipped and drowned in a river at Agona Krakrom in the Sekyere South District in the Ashanti Region.

Kwaku Yiri had just escorted his dear wife, who was travelling to see her relatives in a different town, and was returning home when he slipped and fell in a river.

The deceased person was walking on a wooden bridge when he accidentally slipped and fell in the river, which was said to have over flown its banks by that time.

Eye witnesses’ reports indicated that Yiri’s house is located close to the Offin River, therefore they had to cross the river before they get access to their house.

They disclosed that some people, who were passing by realized that Yiri was struggling in the river so they decided to shout and call for help to rescue Yiri.

Eventually, some Good Samaritans then rushed to the banks of the river to help rescue Yiri but unfortunately he was nowhere to be found.

Some expert swimmers in the community then dived deep into the river to rescue Yiri but their tireless efforts were in vain as Yiri was not found after hours of search.

The traditional leaders in Agona Krakrom were called upon to pour libation and perform some traditional rites before the body of the deceased was found.
