RMU Ag. Vice Chancellor egages with Alumni, promises support for Association’s growth

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jnr.  today met with the RMU Alumni Association at the university’s VC lounge stressing on the importance of collaboration and a formidable group to enhance the fortunes of RMU.

Dr. Brooks praised their optimism and highlighted the crucial role RMU has played in shaping careers within the Ghanaian maritime sector for the last 30 years and encouraged alumni to take bold initiatives, suggesting that if other alumni associations, are occupied with substantial projects, RMU alumni should proactively support themselves. Dr. Brooks expressed optimism about the potential for RMU alumni to achieve even greater accomplishments.

Praising the commitment of the alumni, the Ag. Vice Chancellor highlighted the potential for the RMU Alumni Association to embark on ambitious projects. He called for a revisit of strategies, encouraging the association to go back to the drawing board to ensure it reaches new heights.

Ing. Theodore Mensah, the Interim President of the RMU Alumni Association, led the 14-member interim executive committee present at the meeting. He advocated for increased engagement between the university and the association. Ing. Mensah stressed the importance of utilizing media platforms to enhance the association’s visibility, suggesting that media coverage could contribute to building content for the association’s website.

Dr. Barbourcarr Njie, the University Registrar, committed the university to supporting the endeavors of the alumni association. In addition, he offered guidance to the association, encouraging active engagement with graduating students to strengthen the bond between them and the alma mater. Stressing the importance of maintaining ties, Dr. Njie drew a parallel with familial relationships, affirming that “your mother remains your mother.”

In a gesture of support, the RMU announced plans to provide the alumni association with a dedicated working office on the university premises by March of  2024, expected to facilitate the association’s activities and further strengthen its collaboration with the RMU.

The RMU Alumni Association expressed its belief that active involvement in university activities would not only benefit the alumni but also contribute to its overall growth. The association is optimistic that such engagement will prove mutually beneficial, fostering a stronger sense of community within the RMU.
