Road Contracts: A-G Saves Ghana ¢5.4bn
Auditor-General Daniel Dormelevo has disallowed the payment of GHS5.4billion to 24 road contractors who made claims between 2014 and 2017.
A 2016 audit exercise of ministries, departments and agencies discovered the rot.
Mr Domelevo said GHS5.7billion was first disallowed but the figure came down to GHS5.4billion after the final report of the audit was submitted.
Explaining what he meant by disallowing the payment, Mr Mr Domelevo said: “…It means when we interrogated the liabilities, we did not get any supporting document to justify it. The Ministry [of Roads] could not provide the document, or, in most of the cases, the documents are there but we realised the monies have been paid, so, it is no more a liability, or the amount which has been stated by the ministry we could not verify all.”
“We found out some of the contractors were overpaid,” Mr Domelevo told Accra-based Joy FM.
The final report has been submitted to parliament.
