Robbers Spray Cash at Tesano
Drama unfolded at Tesano a suburb of Accra on Tuesday when two alleged Nigerian robbers scatted their booty on the road in an attempt to escape with it.
Commercial drivers, passengers and commuters and passers-by fell over each other in an attempt to have their fair share of the GH₵14,500 cash they had snatched from three victims.
The robbers who were on board a motorbike were knocked down by a taxi driver who efforts abruptly ended the indeliberately GH₵ 7,300 doled out.
A source at the Tesano Police Station in an interview with THE PUBLISHER disclosed their identities as Endurance Duru, 29 years and Bright Chimezi who is yet to be found by the police.
Narrating what happened, he said that the victims were coming from a car dealership to pick a vehicle in front of the Total Filling station also at Abeka in Accra with one of them holding an envelope full of cash.
Unbeknownst to them, the robbers who were riding a motorbike had been tracking their movement and followed them after getting into a taxi.
The motorcycle rider got closer to the taxi for the pillion rider to pick the envelope but encountered a struggle.
After successfully snatching the envelope, the robbers tried escaping but a taxi driver who was observing what was going on hit the motor and the cash fell and spread on the ground.
Commercial drivers, commuters and passersby rushed to the scene to pick some of the cash but police intervened for the rest of the cash to be collected.
The motorcycle rider sped off the scene leaving behind his counterpart who also tried escaping but luck eluded him as he was followed by a lynch mob who nearly killed him.
An official statement was later made to the police by the victims.
The case is yet to be heard in court today, investigations are ongoing to capture the escapee.
The issue of motorbike thievery has been on the rise in the country.
A recent one occurred at Okornya-Nkurakan near Koforidua in the Eastern Region that caused the perpetrator to be lynched to death.
The suspect is said to have carried out his operation with four other friends who escaped narrowly when some residents raised an alarm.
Superintendent George Atia encouraged the public to be cautious when moving in town to avoid being targeted by robbers.
