One person has been confirmed dead with some others severely injured after they were allegedly shot by a group of armed men at Derma in the Tano South District.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men were attacking a mobile money venture last Friday around 7:30pm.
“One of the robbers was inside the mobile money shop and two were outside. Wofa Kwame(the deceased) who had no idea what was going on, headed towards the mobile money shop for a transaction but was on a phone call and the robbers might have thought he was calling the police or raising an alarm, so they shot him in the right shoulder. The gun’s Bullet entered through the right shoulder and exited through the left shoulder” one witness said.
The family member explained that he was going to take money from the mobile shop after he learnt his money from the 2021 population and housing census was sent to his account.
The deceased, Kwame Adu-Gyamfi Fareed, 40 years, is said to be a teacher at the Derma Senior High School.
He added that another person whom sources claimed to be a teacher was also shot including one other whom they think was part of those attacking the shop.
He explained that the armed robbers continued to shot whiles they walked away from the robbery scene.
“People came back to rescue those shot after 40 minutes, and as at then the deceased has lost a lot of blood” he said
A family member disclosed that their brother died few minutes after they took him to a hospital at Techimantia on the instructions of Derma health center.
The family of the deceased has lamented that the police is not forthcoming with any information but says the case is under investigation, meanwhile, no arrest has been made.
