Reliable documents from Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra region indicate that, as at September 31, this year, the Municipal Assembly had spent a whopping GHC75.210.3 (indicating an increase of more than 300%) on fuel, even though the Assembly had taken its senior staff off fuel allocation.
The Assembly also spent GH₵139,737.83 on refreshment and allowances.
This was captured in the Assembly’s financial statement as at August 31, 2018. The statement, signed by Bright Ametepe, Municipal financial Officer and Michael Owusu Amoako, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, further disclosed that despite President Akufo-Addo’s directive that no appointee of his government should travel abroad without clearance, the Assembly’s June 31, 2018, Trial Balance, disclosed that it had paid GH₵24,030 as travelling allowance to some ‘unidentified’ persons.
So worrying is the state of affairs in the district that, Samuel Osae, Kpone-Katamanso NPP Constituency Communication member, told THE PUBLISHER in a telephone conversation that he would petition President Akufo-Addo, the Special Prosecutor and Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to thoroughly investigate the Assembly and the MCE.
“The NPP and Nana Addo campaigned on change and charged us to be citizens, and not spectators. Therefore, as vigilant citizens, we are hereby drawing his attention to the wanton corruption at the Kpone-Katamanso Assembly and how the MCE he gave us is supervising the act,” Samuel Osae said.
THE PUBLISHER was, however, unable to meet or reach Solomon Tetteh Appiah, the MCE, either in his office or on phone, for a response to the revelations in the document. .
