Mohammed Salisu will be sidelined for AS Monaco’s Ligue 1 match against Lille on Friday night after suffering a hamstring injury during Ghana’s game against Sudan on Tuesday.
The central defender struggled during his outing in Libya, exiting the game after being outpaced by a Sudanese forward, which raised concerns about his fitness.
Salisu had been enjoying a standout start to the season, playing a crucial role in Monaco’s impressive performance, which included a memorable 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League. He even scored his first Champions League goal against Dinamo Zagreb just before the international break.
However, his performances in the two matches against Sudan during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers did not meet expectations, prompting critics to question his commitment to the national team. Salisu has struggled to replicate his club form while playing for the Black Stars.
As Ghana faces challenges in their quest for AFCON qualification, Salisu’s absence represents a significant setback for Monaco, especially with their top position in Ligue 1 on the line. The extent of his injury and potential return date remains unclear, as Monaco has yet to provide further updates.
