The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has initiated a programme, dubbed ‘Walk In My Shoes’ aimed at reducing and eventually eliminating stigmatization against People With Disabilities (PWDs) in the country.
The NPC, led by its President, Samson Deen, initiated a programme to as well boost the dignity of PWDs.
The programme mainly seeks to raise awareness and also getting the public to appreciate the strength and prowess of PWD in the country.
The programme also aims at challenging Able Bodied Persons to compete with para athletes in their various sporting disciplines.
President of the NPC, Samson Deen, during the launching of the programme at Cape Coast, competed in a wheelchair race.
It took President Samson Deen 3 minutes and 41 seconds to complete 400 meters race with some top-notch Ghanaian para athletes.
In his address, he said the new programme would be sustained from now until the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in late August.
“The NPC Ghana will use this initiative to promote UKAID funded project Para Sports Against Stigma campaign in the lead up to Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games”.
The next wheelchair race, slated for Accra in two weeks time, would see the British High Commissioner, Japanese Ambassador and the Sports Minister in action.
