Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom, has joined the chorus advocating for a revamp of Ghana football.
In a recent development, attention has shifted to the issue at hand following the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During an interview on UTV’s United Showbiz with MzGee, Inkoom expressed the belief that advocating for the disbandment of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would not address the underlying challenges plaguing the sport. Inkoom emphasized that alternative solutions should be sought to rectify the current issues within football administration in Ghana.
“It is not the dissolution of the FA that will help us, but what I would add is, they should also be receptive to the ideas others bring on board because we are all looking for the best interest of the game,” he submitted.
Some top journalists on February 14 held the ‘Save Ghana Football’ march in Accra and Kumasi with calls for an overhaul of the football administration in the country.
At the conclusion of their protest march, they formally presented a petition to Parliament, which subsequently directed the matter to the Committee on Youth and Sports for further review and subsequent reporting back to the legislative body.
Within Parliament, members expressed dismay over the decline in the sport’s performance, with one legislator even urging the government to consider intervening in the management of the sport, despite the potential risk of incurring sanctions from FIFA.
This call reflects a deep concern among lawmakers regarding the state of affairs within the sport, highlighting the urgency for governmental action to address the prevailing issues.
