THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) government has initiated a pragmatic programme to eliminate bedbugs from the campuses of the various Senior High Schools (SHS) in the country.
The dangerous parasites, which feed on human blood to survive, are said to be rampant in the campuses of most of the SHSs in the country, posing serious health threat to students.
Reports emerging indicate that the Ministry of Education has collaborated with the Sanitation Ministry to visit the various schools and spray approved chemicals to eliminate the parasites.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has said his ministry did not feel comfortable over the reports and hinted that government had decided to, once and for all, make the bedbugs issue a thing of the past.
There are unconfirmed reports that the presence of bedbugs on the various campuses is adversely affecting academic work as students frequently fall sick following bites from the parasites.
To this end, Dr. Prempeh said the Sanitation Ministry has been tasked to implement new strategies so as to help eliminate bedbugs from the various campuses so that students could concentrate on their studies.
