Sarkodie lights up ‘This is Tema’ festival

Multiple-award-winning rapper Michael Owusu Addo better known as Sarkodie delivered an electrifying performance at the second edition of the ‘This is Tema’ Festival, held at the Chemu Park in Community Seven, Tema.

The festival, which kicked off on Saturday evening, culminated in Sarkodie’s iconic performance on Sunday dawn.

The Chemu Park was filled with enthusiastic fans from Tema, Ashaiman, Nungua, and other neighbouring communities, eager to witness Sarkodie’s return to the stage.

From the moment he stepped onto the stage at 2:40 am, backed by his live band, Sarkodie ignited the crowd with a medley of his greatest hits.

The audience sang along word for word, creating an atmosphere of pure energy and excitement. Sarkodie’s performance lasted until 4:10 am, leaving the crowd wanting more.

 

The ‘This is Tema’ Festival was initiated in 2019 by Sarkodie, who was born and raised in Community 9, Tema, as a way of showing his appreciation to his hometown fans.

The festival was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other commitments, but Sarkodie expressed his commitment to making it an annual event.

In addition to Sarkodie’s headline performance, the festival featured a diverse lineup of Ghanaian artists, including Eyfa, EL, Paedae, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, Donzy, Kofi Jamar, Kweku Flick, Pappy Kojo, Yaw Tog, Maya Blu, Asakaa Boys, Darkovibes, Kofi Mole, Kwame Yogot, Dope Nation, and Quamina MP.

Attendees were also treated to a variety of food and drinks, making it a truly memorable experience for all.

Before the festival, Sarkodie, accompanied by his wife Tracy, led a health walk and hosted a football match, further demonstrating his commitment to the Tema community.

The ‘This is Tema’ Festival is a celebration of Tema’s rich cultural heritage and musical legacy, and Sarkodie’s performance was a fitting tribute to his hometown.
