Angry youths believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Wednesday night, attacked police officers at Sawla in the Northern Region.
The youths, armed with cutlasses and sticks, stormed the police station to rescue the Youth Organizer of the party, Adamu Sakara, who was arrested for attacking a police officer in the area.
Narrating the incident to the media, a representative in the Assembly, Yakubu Issahaku, said the youth organizer accused the police officer for allegedly having an affair with his wife, hence the reason for his attack.
According to sources, he was caught in bed with the lady who is also a community police recruit working in the charge office in the area.
Yakubu further mentioned that a group of police officers arrived to the officer’s rescue after he called for help, leading to the arrest of Sakara.
The irate youth upon hearing the news of Adamu’s arrest, stormed the station to rescue him, and also threatened to burn down the station.
The District Police Commander at Sawla, ASP O.K Boateng, has confirmed the incident.
He described the incident as a small skirmish which did not escalate.
