Mrs Samira Bawumia has donated a cheque for GH20,000 to the Paediatric Unit of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH) so it can procure logistics and run smoothly.
The wife of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also supported mothers at the unit, including a 15-year-old mum-of-twins, whose partner is on the run.
Mrs Bawumia further provided some assorted items to newly-born babies at the unit.
She said she acted based on a request by the management of the hospital to assist them with essential needs.
Speaking to journalists after touring the facility, Mrs Bawumia pleaded with corporate entities to support the hospital and further assured them of government’s commitment towards making healthcare delivery worthwhile.
The wife of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, acknowledged the contribution of the Greater Accra Regional hospital towards delivery of health care in the country.
She commended the commitment and hard work of the staff of the Hospital, charging them to continue to prioritize the needs of their clients over their parochial interests.
For his part, the Medical Director of GARH, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh noted that the donation will be used as seed money for an endowment fund to cater for the needs of the hospital, especially in procuring expensive drugs that are not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The hospital authorities, in turn, expressed appreciation to the second lady for the intervention.
They appealed to the Akufo-Addo government to continue to support the Hospital with the requisite logistics to enable the hospital to run at its fullest capacity.
