Seek for Running Mate or Nat’l Positions – Bagbin tells Volta People
National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer-hopeful, Alban Bagbin, has suggested that the National Chairman position or the presidential running mate slot, should be preserved for party members who come from the Volta Region.
According to him, the region over the years, has been faithful to the opposition NDC, contributing significantly, in terms of numbers, in national elections. Its loyalty to the NDC has earned the region the moniker, ‘World Bank’ of the NDC.
Addressing delegates at the Ketu South Constituency as part of his tour of the southern zone of the Volta Region, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament tasked party members to strive to stamp their authority on the party by winning some key positions.
“[For the] flag bearer [position], you are not seriously going for it; National Chairman, I see efforts; running mate is still left. Running mate is not determined by the flag bearer but the elders upon consultation and looking at the geo-politics and the season; and I am proposing that Volta Region should try to take one of these,” – Mr Bagbin said.
The Nadowli-Kaleo MP said the region should be able to have a key figure as either a National Chairman or presidential running mate when it is time to campaign for the 2020 general elections.
He, however, pointed out that: “When I went through the region, I see that there is no consensus as to whether you will go for running mate or you will go for National Chairman”.
Mr. Bagbin indicated that “being the heart of the party”, the Volta Region, “with your numbers and your strength, Ketu South, can make a difference”.
