Serial fraudster dragged to court today …multiple car thefts, Ghc190K dud cheques

Vincent Acheampong, a self-styled fraudulent car dealer, currently facing multiple criminal charges at the Suame Divisional Police Command as well as the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would appear before a Kumasi Circuit Court this morning.

The suspect, is a parliamentary candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Offinso North Constituency of the Ashanti Region and has been on the run for a while until he was arrested in the room of a female friend last week.

The suspect, who has multiple cases lodged against him by his victims in various parts of the country, was arrested at his hideout around Breman UGC, a suburb of Kumasi after playing hide-and-seek for several months with the security agencies on manhunt for him.

His modus operandi was taking vehicles from prominent car dealers under the guise of selling them on their behalf and then absconded with no trace of the money and vehicles.

In a case in point, he is confirmed to have taken a vehicle belonging to a Tamale-based journalist, traded it in and took a vehicle belonging to a Kumasi-based businessman with a promise of topping him up.

Vincent Acheampong who is also a former NPP Constituency Executive for Offinso North, went into hiding and despite several attempts to retrieve the cross country vehicle in question proved futile. When pressure was mounted on him to produce the vehicles, he issued a number of cheques with a face value of GHC190, 000.

The cheques were dishonoured by the respective banks because the counts were dormant.

An official complaint was lodged with the Suame Police, who after several months of trailing arrested him on Monday June, 2023.

In view of the fact that other complainants were looking for him, the Ashanti Regional CID asked he is transferred to the Regional Police Command to assist in investigations in relation to other crimes.

Sources confirmed the suspect would be arraigned before court on a number of charges today Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

This comes in the wake of several persons who have fallen victim to his activities, rushing to the police to lodge complaints against him.

It is unlikely, prosecutors may agree to requests from relatives for Vincent Acheampong to be granted bail in view of the fact that he is considered a flight risk.
