Seven Killed in Walewale Bus Attack

Four more people have died following the brutal attack and burning of a bus near Walewale in the North East Region on Friday, February 14th 2025, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.

The victims, including a Burkinabe and three Togolese nationals, suffered gunshot wounds before the attackers set the bus ablaze. One individual was burned beyond recognition but was later identified on the morning of Saturday, February 15th 2025.

The bus, with registration number GR 7501-21, departed from the ADT station at Pulukoom in the Pusiga District but broke down near Loagri, close to a police barrier. On February 14th 2025, the driver left for Tamale in search of a mechanic, leaving the bus under the care of the police, the mate, and passengers.

Confirming the attack, News 360 correspondent, Castro Senyalah reported that security agencies in Walewale had verified the attack on the bus, which was traveling along the Walewale-Tamale highway. According to him, armed men arrived at the scene, opened fire on the passengers and police officers, and forced everyone to flee. The attackers shot multiple people before torching the bus.

Initially, three people, including a toddler, were found burned to death. Another body was discovered in the charred vehicle on Saturday, raising the toll to four. One injured victim, who was admitted to Walewale Hospital, later succumbed to injuries the same day.

In the early hours of Sunday, February 16th 2025, two more victims transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital also died.

Authorities have launched investigations, confirming that all seven deceased individuals were Burkinabe and Togolese nationals.
