A gang of four fierce-looking men holding machetes stormed the Spiritan Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti region last Sunday morning and sexually assaulted some of the female students before stealing money, food and other items belonging to the students, says information reaching The New Publisher.
This was said to be the second time such an incident of armed attacks and assault was happening in the school, located at Adankwame in the Atwima Nwabigya North District of the Ashanti region.
The other students, upon seeing what was happening to their colleagues, were reported to have fled for their lives and returned to campus after calm had been restored.
They have generally been living in fear since the incident.
The Assembly Member for Adankwame Electoral area Mr. Paul Yeboah Asiamah in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the robbers sexually molested some of the female students after their operation.
He said the incident occurred when the headmaster of the school had left campus for church service, according to the Assembly Member.
The Assembly Member also said computers in the school’s library were stolen by armed robbers some time ago.
He attributed the recurrent robbery attacks on the school to its unfenced nature.
Mr Asiamah therefore called on the government to intervene, fence the school and intensify security to prevent the armed robbery incidents.
“Adankwame has recorded several robbery cases…robbers are really tormenting the lives of the people. It is difficult to go out after 7pm and before 7am due to insecurity in the community” He explained.
He added that some of the students have been traumatized after the robbery in the school saying it is affecting teaching and learning in the school
The incident, has since been reported to the Adankwame police investigations are underway.
