SURGEONS at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi are expected to conduct a complicated surgery to separate two Siamese twins this week.
The twins, both females, were born at the Ejura Government Hospital in the Ashanti region around 6:30pm on Saturday.
The twins and their mother are currently doing very well, 24 hours after their birth, medical officials have disclosed to the paper.
Dr. Manye A.D. Mensah, Medical Superintendent at Ejura Government Hospital, said the conjoin twins would be operated at KATH, possibly on Tuesday.
According to him, the mother arrived at the hospital in labour on Saturday, but the delivery was not as smooth as expected. He said he realized that the twins were conjoined in the abdomen area and so he performed a Cesarean Section (CS) to make the delivery successful.
The cesarean surgery lasted only 30 minutes.
