The campaign of Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general polls continues to attract support from all levels of the Party across the country and the a rising number of the party’s Electoral College members for the all important November 4 flag-bearer primaries have continued to openly declare support for his candidature.
The latest addition are leading party grassroots members who have hitherto openly identified with the campaign teams of other aspirants, specifically Kennedy Agyapong and the runaway-aspirant, Alan Kyeremanten, in the Ashanti Region have openly announced their defection to join the Bawumia campaign team.
At a news conference on Sunday October 15, 2023, supporters of John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Kennedy Agyapong announced they had defected to the camp of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pledging their unflinching support.
Led by Mr. Dawuda Afriyie, the First Vice Chairman of the Offinso North Constituency they were heard in a viral video singing the praise of the Vice President and shouting “It’s Possible”.
Addressing journalists, Adul Aziz Ismail popularly known as Kennedy Ba and a polling station Executive at Kwaman Methodist in the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency underscored the need for winnable candidate who is Dr. Bawumia.
“We are looking for a winnable flag-bearer for the 2024 polls. Some of our MPs and Executives have come under severe attacks over their choice of their preferred candidates. The Majority Leader who has been an MP for several years knows the best candidate to be flag-bearer and settled on the Vice President as the best candidate. Our father Kan Dapaah believes Bawumia is the obvious choice and we have bought into their idea. As a result, we have resolved to support the Vice President”, he disclosed.
Mr. Adul Aziz Ismail described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a the right candidate to be the flag-bearer of the NPP in the 2024 indicating that choice is devoid of inducement or any personal gain but for the general good of the NPP.
On his part Mr. Dawuda Afriyie a staunch Alan Kyeremanten supporter in the Ashanti Region bemoaned the conduct of the resigned NPP member and expressed his disappointment.
“After the decision of Alan and I am not a kid in politics to be shown which path to choose. I voted for Busia in 1969 and I have been voting till date. I have supporters and we decided to throw our support for Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We have supporters in the 15 constituencies assigned to me and I can assure you they will all be for Bawumia now”, he disclosed.
This significant defection to join Team Bawumia, comes barely a week after some executives in the Asssin Central Constituency of the Central Region, home constituency of Kennedy Agyapong, one of the flag-bearer aspirants openly declared their support for the Vice President; the Ashanti Region has also done same.
The Assin Central delegates, including polling station chairmen and other executive explained that Dr. Bawumia is the best among the four remaining aspirants to represent the party at next year’s election and has all it takes to win the presidential election for the NPP.
They also noted that Dr. Bawumia is the backbone behind the major achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led Administration and that makes him one capable of leading the party and subsequently winning the 2024 General Elections.
For them, Dr. Bawumia’s promise to make ten appointments each from each constituency will ensure that as executives and committed members to the party, they benefit from such appointments.
“We are going to the polls to elect a flag-bearer on November 4, 2023. And an election is to declare your stand and make a choice. Among the four aspirants to the flag-bearer position, the one I think is best fit to win power for the NPP in 2024 is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This is because if we look at the major achievements of the Akufo-Addo Administration, they have become possible because of the support he has enjoyed from Dr. Bawumia as his vice…That is why my people and I have met here and have thrown our support fully behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We are confident that when he wins the primaries, he will definitely win the presidential election in 2024 for the NPP,” Raphael Acquah, Chairman of WurakeseD/A Polling station explained in.
