Simona Halep, the World number one has suffered a slipped disc. This situation has puts her participation in this month’s WTA Finals in doubt. The 27-year-old, French Open champion says she does not know how long she will be out but hopes to be back “soon”.
The back injury led her to retire from Sunday’s first-round match against Ons Jabeur at the China Open.
Romanian Halep aggravated the problem during her China Open first-round match on Sunday against Ons Jabeur and was forced to retire after losing the first set.
She tweeted: “I will discuss with doctors in the next few days and will keep you updated.”
The injury could force Halep to miss the end-of-season WTA Finals in Singapore, which run from 21 to 28 October.
