Sista Afia To Return To Nursing At 40

Ghanaian Afro-pop artiste, Francisca Gawugah known widely as Sista Afia has revealed plans to return to her nursing career at the age of 40 after years of pursuing music.

In a recent interview on Onua TV FM on Tuesday, February 4, she shared that although she is currently focused on her music career, she will eventually go back to her roots in healthcare.

Sista Afia, who was once a licensed nurse in the UK, explained that her nursing career is on hold while she dedicates herself full-time to her music. Before transitioning into music, the singer worked as a nurse, but she relocated to Ghana in 2015 to chase her musical dreams.

Despite the success she has garnered in the music industry, she remains committed to returning to nursing when the time is right.

“Right now, I’m a full-time musician, and nursing is on hold. When I get to the age of 40, I’ll go back to nursing,” Sista Afia stated.

The singer, known for popular tracks like “Jeje” and “Slay Queen,” jokingly added, “It’s been a while since I stopped school; I’ve even forgotten how to spell Chloroquine.”

Sista Afia went on to explain that her current primary focus is on her music, but she is open to returning to her nursing profession in the future. She studied nursing at the Reverend John Teye Memorial Institute in Ghana before advancing her education in the UK.

In addition to her nursing plans, Sista Afia recently expressed frustration over what she perceives as fake love from some of her so-called friends in the music industry.

In the same interview, the singer opened up about how some colleagues in the industry have failed to reciprocate the support and love she has shown them.

She explained that she has often set aside her own plans and activities to support friends in the music scene, but they have not extended the same courtesy to her. “I’m down for everybody and I feel like we are just together as a group. I even see us as siblings in the music space. So if you need me and I come and sometimes I leave everything to support you and I get this in return, it’s cool,” she said.

Sista Afia noted that her kindness and soft nature have made her vulnerable to being taken advantage of. She acknowledged that she had given people multiple chances but has now decided to stop allowing herself to be treated unfairly.

“They know themselves…I’m the type who loves people so it’s like they want to play with my weakness,” she added. “I’m done with it because I’ve given people a lot of chances and I’m the type who gives a lot of chances. That’s how the world is, now I know I don’t have friends.”

Her frustration was further fueled by the lack of support for her latest song, “Krekete Soja.”

In a post on X on February 1, she lamented that many of her so-called friends and colleagues had not shared or promoted the track.

“I released a tune, Krekete Soja and most of my so-called colleagues/friends haven’t posted or shared to show their support but will run to me when they need my help. Funny people, smh! I’m watching you all. Fake love everywhere,” she wrote.
