Manchester United have announced Old Trafford great, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the new caretaker manager to assume duties from Michael Carrick who took over as the interim manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
A link to the highlights of the 1999 Champions League triumph in which Solskjaer scored in injury time to hand Manchester United the trophy over Bayern Munich featured a caption of “Solskjaer becomes our interim manager, 20 seasons after clinching the Treble with that goal at Camp Nou…” The link didn’t last long as it was taken down.
Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg has also all but confirmed Solskjaer’s status as United’s new interim coach on her Twitter page.
Ms Solberg wrote: “Great day for Norwegian football. Good luck in keeping control of the Red Devils, @ olegs26_ole.” The Prime Minister, however, went on delete that tweet minutes later.
Solskjaer is currently manager of Molde but the Norwegian season ended last month and does not resume until March 31.
