President Akufo-Addo delivering his 3rd State of the Nation address (SONA 2019) on the floor of parliament said the two years of his government has been hard but fruitful, stating that the government has been able to accomplish a number of things promised the people of Ghana prior to the 2016 general elections.
“We have imposed fiscal discipline and business confidence is growing. We will maintain the discipline and develop our country…Our efforts are bearing fruits and the world is taken notice of the improvement in our economic fundamentals.
“We intend to introduce measures that will ensure that we have the firmest foundations for the economic takeoff that has eluded us for so long,” the President said.
According to him, the fight against child labour has chalked some moderate success stating that “Ghana has moved up from the trafficking watch list.”
The President further said after several years of trying to identify oil fields in Ghana, it took the effort of the NPP government to discover oil in 2007.
President Akufo-Addo added that some 13 oil blocks were signed under the NDC but none was developed.
“After many years of almost giving up, it took an NPP government to discover oil in Ghana,13 oil blocks were signed under the NDC but not a single one was developed. The first one signed under my government has led to the second biggest oil discovery in Ghana”. – he added.
