The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially commenced investigations into what is suspected to be an episode of using monetary influence to control votes in a public election and has therefore invited the lead character in that drama, Mr. Alexander Sarfo- Kantanka alias ‘Chairman Aluta’, to assist in the said investigations.
A letter signed by the Special Prosecutor himself, Kissi Agyebeng, dated Tuesday November 2, 2021 and addressed to Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka, the President’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive for the Juaben Municipal Assembly noted: “The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced investigations into allegations of corruption and corruption related offences (especially corruption and intimidation in respect of a public election) in relation to your nomination and confirmation or otherwise as the Municipal Chief Executive of Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
“The OSP considers you a person necessary for the investigations. You are directed to attend, in person, the offices of the OSP at 6 Haile Selassie Avenue, South Ridge Accra GA-079-0906 on Tuesday 9 November 02 at 2:30 in the afternoon for interviewing. You may be accompanied by counsel of your choice.”
Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka became a topic for headline news when he was seen in a viral video angrily demanding monies he supposedly gave to some Assembly Members to influence his confirmation.
This same Sarfo-Kantanka had failed twice in his quest to be voted as MCE.
In his first attempt after he secured just single six votes out of a total of 26 from Assembly Members.
In his second attempt, his six votes rose to 10 but he still failed anyway and this may have angered him to say the things he was caught on video yelling out to some of the Assembly Members who formed the Electoral College in the said polls.
An unhappy Alex was captured in a secretly filmed video, demanding a refund of the bribe he allegedly paid to some assembly members after they rejected him during a nearly chaotic confirmation process.
The rejected nominee was captured in a video hurling insults and curses at some individuals believed to be assembly members for accepting his money but refusing to confirm him as the substantive MCE for the area.
The video further captured Sarfo-Kantanka exchanging words in anger with some Assembly Members and demanding the “return his money urgently”.
Meanwhile, police arrested him and subsequently granted him a self recognizance bail.
A police statement dated Tuesday, November 2, 2021, signed and issued by the Director of Police Public Affairs, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng said Kantanka was arrested on Monday by the police for the alleged bribery and has since been granted a police enquiry bail after a caution statement was taken from him.
