Speeding Okada kills Police Officer
A policeman was on Thursday May 9, 2019 tragically knocked down by a commercial Motor-biker (aka Okada operator) leading to his death at Nakomkope in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra.
Corporal Michael Ofosu, 36, of Dawa met his untimely death during a patrol duty together with his other Divisional Patrol Team members.
Confirming the incident to THE PUBLISHER, the Ada West District Police Commander, DSP George Aboagye, Corporal Ofosu tried to stop the suspect, Daniel Ansah, 24, who was riding from Sege towards Nakomkope but he refused.
He said Ansah began meandering from one side of the road to the other in a quest to escape, while the officer also tried to arrest him.
DSP Aboagye noted that, Daniel Ansah eventually knocked down the uniformed officer, causing serious damages to the head. He said the officer was rushed to the Ada East District Hospital, where he was later transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra, and subsequently to the 37 Military Hospital.
According to the commander, the officer was eventually pronounced dead around 10pm same day. His body had since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital Morgue awaiting autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Daniel Ansah, who also fell with the motorbike in the process sustained minor injuries and was sent to the Battor Roman Catholic Hospital where he was treated and discharged the following morning.
Daniel is currently in the custody of the Kasseh Divisional Police Command. A docket on the case, according to the Ada West District Police Commander, will be sent to the Attorney General’s department for advice.
