PRESS CONFERENCE
4th July 2018
Distinguished friends of the media
Members of the New Patriotic Party
Ladies and Gentlemen
All protocol observed
Good morning and thank you for honoring my invitation.
I have invited you here this morning to update you on my national campaign tour for the 4th unprecedented time for the Chairmanship slot of the New Patriotic Party. In that period, I have been able to visit almost all the 275 constituencies in the 10 regions of Ghana and the support from the constituency executives has been massive.
During my tours, I shared my vision for the party for the next four years with the delegates, and they have bought into my vision. As part of the tour, I had the opportunity to listen to the concerns of the party people and most of these concerns will be resolved when they vote for me as the National Chairman.
I wish to use this opportunity to re-echo my vision to the distinguished delegates and also address certain concerns.
This press statement will address the following 5 key topics:
1. Promoting the major components of the party
2. Contributions by Stephen Ntim over the years
3. Roles played by Stephen Ntim during the 2016 general election campaign
4. The need to reward our members for loyalty and commitment
5. Stephen Ntim’s pledge to support Nana Akufo Addo to deliver our manifesto promises

Promoting the major components of the party
The following identifiable components will be given a major boost under my chairmanship:
• The Polling/Constituency Party
• The Parliamentary Party
• The External Branches
The Polling/Constituency Party is the base and the biggest chunk of the party in terms of numbers. They perform the leg-work for the party by way of sweat-equity, and they can always be counted on to deliver on their side of the bargain.
They also constitute the lion’s share of the king-makers, known as the delegates, for national executive positions. They therefore play a highly significant role in the affairs of the party because it is a huge responsibility on them when the time comes for us to elect our leaders to steer the affairs of the party for the next 4 years. Their failure to honor this responsibility has the potential to lead the party into opposition or keep us in perpetual opposition.
The Parliamentary party comprises our 169 members of parliament who are in constant touch with their respective constituencies serving as the mouth piece of the party in parliament, whilst at the same time resourcing the party financially, especially during opposition. I recognize this onerous responsibility and intend to work closely with them to deepen this relationship with our parliamentarians.
The third leg of the party is the External Branches, currently represented in 21 Countries. Their support to the party is immeasurable, whether we are in government or opposition, ranging from financial assistance, equipment supply, contributions by way of ideas and a lot more. When elected as Chairman of the party, External Branches will be encouraged to play more of these traditional roles, and also be given the opportunity to play more central roles in the party. The fine details of this new relationship will be carved out with input from they themselves. Stephen Ntim’s chairmanship will ensure a greater collaboration among these three key groups, as against their current independent existence.
Contributions by Stephen Ntim over the years:
Over 16 years ago, I single-handedly donated 14 vehicles to the party because I identified a need and took care of that need without making any promise. Every regional secretariat, and four constituencies, received one vehicle. It is important to note that in those days, this modest gesture was unprecedented in the party.
The Role of Stephen Ntim in the 2016 campaign:
After I lost the 2014 Chairmanship race in Tamale, I did not relax or stay away from the party. I bounced back and played a core role in the presidential primary elections for Nana Akufo Addo. Indeed, His Excellency the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, was in charge of the Northern sector, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong was in charge of Central and Western Regions, Hon. Stanley Egyir Blankson was in charge of the Greater Accra and Volta Regions, while I took charge of the middle-belt sector (B/A, A/R, ER). At the end of the day, we collectively delivered the flagbearer position to Nana Akufo Addo with not less than 96% of the overall votes cast in the election.
Furthermore, I served on the National Campaign Team under the able leadership of Mr. Peter Mac Manu (Campaign Manager), where I was specifically in charge of the Settler Communities project. Under my leadership, this project targeted 50 constituencies selected from 5 regions namely, Western Region, Central Region, Volta Region, Brong-Ahafo Region, and Ashanti Region. I put my own 4 pickups into the campaign, bought 50 motorbikes for the 50 constituency coordinators in addition, and solicited for 2000 bicycles to ensure the smooth running of the project. When the results were declared in December 2016, the party had won several of the 50 constituencies but 13 of them were brand-new constituencies. Some of them were Atebubu-Amantin, Tain, Dormaa West, New Edubiase, Sefwi Wiawso, Sefwi Akontonbra, Jomoro, and Krachi East constituencies, among others.
When I am elected as National Chairman, I will make sure that a competent team will be put together to continue with the project, a brainchild of the then candidate Nana Akufo Addo, which yielded such an impressive result for us.
The Need to reward Loyalty:
This party fortunately has an unwritten tradition that rewards our members for loyalty, commitment, dedication, sacrifice, long service and hard-work. In furtherance of this tradition, my strongest wish is that we continue to uphold it by rewarding everybody and anybody who exhibits these qualities in any capacity at any point in time.
Our former President, H.E John Agyekum Kufuor toiled, was rewarded, and eventually became President of this nation. H.E Nana Akufo Addo toiled, was rewarded accordingly on his third attempt, and he also eventually became President of the Country.
This is Steve Ntim’s unprecedented 4th attempt at becoming the National Chairman of the party. Putting all other considerations aside, I am pleading with all delegates that this unwritten reward system must apply, by voting massively for me as Chairman of the party on 7th July in Koforidua. If we succeed in doing this by allowing the truth to prevail, by being genuinely truthful to ourselves, it will go a long way to motivate the younger generation to also work in the same selfless spirit for the party. This is my clarion call on our distinguished delegates to help preserve this noble unwritten NPP tradition.
My Support for the President
Every political party worth its salt should always be aiming at winning political power, and also retaining power for a long time. The NPP is no exception to this political principle. When our delegates eventually reward me in Koforidua on the 7th of July, my resolve will be to ensure that in addition to all other measures, policies, programs and projects to be rolled out, I will closely work with and support our President, H.E Nana Akufo Addo, to deliver on our campaign promises in order to help the government to excel and meet the expectations of the electorate, to win the 2020 elections and set the stage for us to continue winning future elections.
This is my unalloyed commitment to the party in general, to the delegates and the President in particular. Distinguished delegates, I am pleading with you to:
• Trust me to do this
• Rely on me to do this
• Depend on me to do this
• Count on me to do this
I am entreating you to support me to win the election as well as to deliver on this promise.
Ladies and gentlemen, I want to alert the distinguished NPP delegates that propaganda messages are already being spread around to discredit my campaign. The next few days before the election will witness more wicked propaganda messages. If you are in doubt when the negative propaganda messages hit you, the best insurance policy is this:
I have decided to vote for Stephen Ntim because he is loyal, dedicated, committed, and hardworking; we rewarded President Kufuor on his several attempts, we did the same for President Akufo Addo on his third attempt, so propaganda or no propaganda, we will still reward Stephen Ntim on his unprecedented 4th attempt.
Furthermore, when Stephen Ntim visited our constituency, we bought into his message. He put across very pragmatic measures to reward us by talking about economic empowerment, our welfare as officers of the party, and recognition for all of us including our elders through simple phone-calls, visitations and invitations to party functions to let them feel that they are still part of the party.
Material inducements of all shapes, colors and forms will also feature prominently in Koforidua. Please accept anything that is offered to you, but do not allow those considerations to influence your decision to vote for Ntim before you leave your Constituencies. Finally, I wish you all a pleasant and safe trip from your respective constituencies, and also, an enjoyable 3 day stay in Koforidua.
Thank you.
