Fast-rising highlife/afrobeat artiste Kwame Ayi Kwaw popularly known in showbiz as Stone Gee has won two awards at this year’s edition of the Ashanti Region Music Awards (ARMA) held last Saturday.
The Eastern Region-based artiste received the non-Ashanti Song of the Year and Non-Ashanti Artiste of the Year awards at the event held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.
The event, organized to reward Ghanaian music icons who reside in the region was attended by a large number of music stakeholders, entertainers, and music lovers in the Ashanti Region.
The awards scheme is also geared towards projecting excellence and giving support to young emerging and creative talents in the region.
Stone Gee beat off competition from acts such as Koo Ntakra, Kwame Yogot, Okortor Perry, Kwasi King Burner, Wyse Brain, Klara Kay, Jay Baba, Slay Boi, Currency, Nana Baa Junior, Fiifi Gaisie, Kwesi Korang, Abolo, Klarah Kay and Abbi Ima to win the non-Ashanti Artiste of the Year category.
In the non-Ashanti Song of the Year category, he again beat off competition from twelve artists which include Kwesi King Burner, Slay Boi, Nana Baah Junior, Bole Boys, Zimunda, Kwame Yogot among others to grab the award.
At the event, over 30 celebrities and personalities were also honoured for their contributions to the development of the creative industry in the region.
Winning the award didn’t come in as a surprise knowing the stuff Stone Gee was made of when it came to vocal delivery and the messages his songs carried.
Stone Gee in an interview after the event thanked the organizers for the recognition and dedicated the awards to all young talented artists in Ghana who are working hard despite their current challenges to pursue their dreams.
Currently, in the studio working on a collaboration with Jamaican artiste, Sizzla Kalonji, Stone Gee said, “I thank God for how far He has brought me, my management, Gavali Music and all the DJs in the country. I thank my fans for encouraging, and supporting me from the beginning till date,” he said.
His management team was full of appreciation to fans and well-wishers who had supported him over the years and promised that fans should watch out for more surprise achievements as he was poised for action in the years to come.
In a chat, his producer, Richard Essien (Magic Rocker) told DGN that Stone Gee truly deserves the awards because he has worked very hard to register his brand on the music scene.
According to him, Stone Gee’s latest single Bad Friends featuring Okyeame Kwame is still receiving massive airplay and has been tipped to be nominated for several awards next year.
