Stop Claiming Credit for Fixing Energy Crisis – NDC

The Ashanti Regional office of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the government to stop claiming underserved credit for fixing the country’s energy crisis.

It said what Ghanaians were seeing today – stable power supply, was the result of the carefully thought-out policy measures, investments and programmes implemented by the Mahama Administration.

Mr. Mathew Kojo Njourkone, the Deputy Regional Secretary, in a press statement, cited the emergency power generating plants – 470 megawatts (MW) Karpower and the 250 MW Ameri.

Added to these, were the construction of new power plants (Kpone Thermal Plant) and gas processing at Atuabo.

Mr. Njourkone said the facts did not support the assertion by government officials that the “NPP Government solved the electricity crisis (Dumsor)”.

He added that this could not be true – clearly false and something that should not be taking seriously by the people.

He made reference to former President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation address to Parliament in February, 2015, where he declared that he did not want to manage the problem, as had been the case in the past, but rather working to “fix” the problem, once and for all”.

He said the former President took specific action to resolve the shortfall in power supply and the outcome “is the power stability the nation is now enjoying”.

“In fact, by the time we (the NDC) left office, we handed over a ’Dumsor-free state to the NPP administration.”

He asked that the government told Ghanaians any of its steps and investments in the power sector that helped to end the energy crisis.
